An Obedient Missionary

Saints King Cake and Cookies

Garrett with our "Stick Greg" the day of the Superbowl

I didn't watch the game. President Yardley told me not to and I was going to not listen to him and do it anyways but I decided that I shouldn't. I had a guy we were teaching tell me the scores and stuff lol. My zone leaders were surprised when I said I didn't watch the game but I did hear it was a good game. I got to watch the celebration and the highlights. I also didn't watch it because I thought they would have lost if I would have watched considering I was told not to lol.

But anyways I have 2 baptisms coming up this week on Friday. I don't think I have a whole lot of pictures on my camera but then again I could be wrong. But everything is going well. I get along with my companion for the most part although he gets angry and frustrated really easily. O yeah during the Superbowl I spent my time watching some movie on Joseph Smith lol. It was a pretty good movie. I feel good about what I'm doing right now. I have been pretty obedient lately on my own. So how is the family doing? Yall will have to get me a Superbowl shirt and maybe buy the DVD for when I get home lol. Anyways I'm teaching quite a bit of people. The 2 getting baptized are Dorothy and Vincent. This other kid who is about 15 named Chris will be getting baptized probably on the 20th. Tell all my friends I said hi by the way. So this week has been pretty good. I didn't go to church though on Sunday because my companion hasn't been feeling well lately. He is having like a ton of migraine headaches. Everything seems to be going good without my medicine. I do kind of say a lot of random things though like I did back home though without it. Sorry this email is all over the place. I still have yet to see Trevor. I keep going to the temple and then the mission office and I never see him there. I will eventually see him there lol. So how are granny and them doing? And send me a picture of this puppet thing yall made of me. I had made something like a stick puppet of Greg for the Superbowl. It had a picture of him as a missionary on one side and a picture of him in his Brees jersey on the other. Since he couldn't be there with us in person to watch his team win the Superbowl, we had the stick puppet to represent him. It was kind of funny, but cute. Yeah I got the SI article you sent but I hope yall get the one of Drew Brees on the cover cause I would like to read it and it will be a collectors item one day maybe. Well mom thanks for the email.

We still go see Aaron in Jail. He is a really nice guy and I have respect for him. He has a hearing this Thursday so its possible that he could get out of jail then. Marti is the guy who had a seizure in church and he is fine. He just went home and rested later that day. It was a mild seizure. It wasn't like horribly bad or anything. Yeah I'm still enjoying my mission. I want a companion though that I can be buddy buddy with. Then it would be more fun. I'm waiting for summer to come around because I'm tired of cold weather and I think the days will go by a lot faster once summer comes. Meagan has a cute dog. How are all of them doing? On a scale of 1-10 I would rate my mission probably a 7 or a 8. Its a good learning experience and its not the easiest thing in the world. I have my trials but overall its been a good experience and it will be a good experience for getting married and raising a family. I also learn to be a lot more outgoing. Transfers are in 2 weeks I believe. At some point I will probably serve with Trevor cause President Yardley likes to put Elders who know each other together a lot of the time. On P day we have been going to the temple and we played volleyball last week and we just kinda chill. I would like to play more volleyball and sports more often though. I haven't written in my journal but I really need to try and write in it. I just never feel like writing in it lol. I hope I answered all of your questions. Today should be a pretty busy week. I have a stake coalition meeting tonight and a lesson at 5 with someone. We are gonna teach this guy Moses the 1st lesson tonight so hopefully it will be good. Anyways tell everyone I said hi and thanks for writing.

An Interesting Sacrament Meeting

Elder Mattei at birthday party for Vincent
Wonder if this reminds him of home?

Dorothy and Vincent committed to be baptized. They will be baptized next week hopefully. Thank you for the packages. I really appreciate them. I forgot to thank you for them in my last letter. Anyway church this week was interesting. Marti (Vincent's Dad) was like, "Elder Mattei come help me up and bring me into the hallway" because he was about to have a seizure. So I went over there to help him up and this is while they're passing sacrament, and all of a sudden I notice his head drooping into his lap and he starts shaking and I'm trying to hold him still from hitting his head and I'm motioning towards the bishop that I need some help. Then we dragged him in to the hall and laid him down until he woke up. He was fine later that day when we went to go see him. I try to go to the temple whenever I can. I went to the temple 2 weeks ago. Its always good to go once in awhile. I'm excited for the Saints game on Sunday.

Yeah, we know . . . . The Saints Are In the Superbowl!

Hey Family!

So I did see some of the game. I had asked him if he got to see any of the Saints vs. Vikings game. I was very emotional watching the Saints win and wishing Greg could be here to see his dream become reality! I saw some of the 2nd quarter, some of the 3rd quarter, most of the 4th quarter and all of overtime. We knew if he could find a member or investigator who was going to watch the game he would be there. It was a really good game. I enjoyed being able to watch it. One of the less active guys we taught called me up and was like well congratulations Elder Mattei your team won. He was pulling for the Vikings.

So how has everything been going with yall? So we have another person that is willing to be baptized. He was refrerred by a Bishop in another stake and we taught him and we will probaly set a baptismal date the next time we meet him. All these baptisms are in the 15th ward. We really needed this work to do cause this area was really running low on people to teach. The 5th and 9th ward have been running low.

That was funny what Julian said lol. Julian had responded to something Mark had written saying Drew Brees was quoted after the game saying, "We did this for New Orleans and Greg Mattei, but mostly for Greg Mattei". So are Granny and all them excited about the Saints? I'm having a hard time seeing Mark pulling for the Saints. When I was watchin the game at a members house I was pacing and stuff cause I was all nervous about them losing and I was getting antsy. We're wondering if he was just pacing or hollering and clapping too??? Hopefully he maintained some missionary composure! LOLIt was a great game to watch though. So this is my new email fyi. The church had some kind of agreement with google so its a lot like gmail. My companion is kind of a football fan but he does like the Colts. Elder Roth is from Indianapolis. He is not like a huge fan or anything.

I still stink with scripture masteries but I have learned James 1:5. Elder Mattei was never one who could memorize scriptures very well. I think it helps to know some of what we learn in seminary but I have been doing just fine without knowing all the scriptures and stuff. You naturally get to know where things are at and stuff in the scriptures. I've been doing a lot of studying on faith and prayer and recognizing the gift of the Holy Ghost. I meet so many jobless people living on food stamps and Welfare. How are you going to do that tax job and your own job at the same time? I will keep Grandma and you in my prayers and mom as well. I put Grandmas name on the prayer rolls in the temple last Tuesday.

But I'm focusing on the work. Having a girl though is a motivation though to work hard. So hopefully it will all work out in the end :) A response to a question about a certain young lady. :) But yeah I g2g. Hope that yall have a good day.
